The End of a War..?

It's been almost 08 1/2 years now, since the US forces occupied Iraq and overthrew the Saddam Hussien Regime.  To be precise, it was on March 20, 2003 that the US troops entered Iraq from Kuwait, ably supported by the British troops.

Now, after almost nine years, Brack Obama, now, finally decided to 'lower the Mission Iraq Flag'... and marked the end of their war on terror.

This has left Iraq with a decade of internal strife in which more than 4,500 american soldiers died.  But the causalities on the other side is much much more than what is being published by various media houses. It is estimated that almost 2 million Iraqis have been displaced, and almost close to One and a Half Iraqi civilian deaths have been reported as a result of the conflict between the american forces and various insurgent groups.

If we look at the legacy that US is leaving behind in Iraq, we get to see only more insurgency and no peace anywhere. There are still bomb blasts that rip the country everyday, more civilians dying and threats of a division of the country on ethnic lines looms large. Is this what a decade of US occupation can do to an otherwise secular and progressive-islamic nation that Iraq was? Can Obama's Nobel Peace Prize justify the death of a million Iraqis?

And what are we supposed to look forward to in the days to come..? have these troops actually left Iraq? or are they roaming in the Gulf with Iran in their sights? Only time will tell...
